What is the fabric technology?
The Chlorine-Shield fabric technology in CloroxPro™ Scrubs and Lab Coats is called BioSmart®. BioSmart by Milliken is a patented technology engineered into the fabric that binds chlorine from the wash to the surface of the fabrics. The retained chlorine inhibits the growth and spread of bacteria. When laundered as directed with an EPA-registered chlorine bleach*, BioSmart® binds the chlorine to its surface, which then kills 99.9%** of many common bacteria and viruses. What does it do?
Independent, outside testing has demonstrated that when BioSmart® fabrics are laundered according to care instructions with EPA-registered chlorine bleach*, the chlorine kills 99.9** percent of common bacteria and viruses including:
- Salmonella Choleraesuis
- Escherichia Coli
- Staph aureas
- Hepatitis A
- Klebsiella pneumoniae
Is it safe?
BioSmart® fabrics have passed the ISO skin irritation and skin sensitivity tests. BioSmart® has not been tested to allergens. If an allergic reaction is suspected, the individual should avoid continued use of a BioSmart®.
There are many ways to break the chain of transmission including general safety, hygienic practices and implementation of a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point plan (HACCP). However, there is always the element of human error present. BioSmart® adds an extra layer of protection against contamination.
Does it last?
BioSmart is durable through a minimum of 75 industrial or home launderings. In lab tests, BioSmart binds chlorine for up to 12 weeks with each laundering. Even at 75 washes, the fabric has been shown to bind chlorine sufficiently to kill pathogens with 99.9% efficacy.
Should I use
No. BioSmart fabric is designed to be laundered in EPA-registered chlorine bleach. “Color-Safe” bleach products do not contain sodium hypochlorite, which is needed to activate the antimicrobial effect of BioSmart. BioSmart fabric is engineered to maintain its
